Though St. Louis may seem an unlikely fall weekend destination location, this charming Midwestern city is arguably America’s hidden gem – especially come autumn! Whether you’re traveling alone, as a couple, or with the entire family, St. Louis has a variety of notable activities to entertain & delight all ages. Read up on our favorite fall “to-dos,” then be sure to hop online or give us a call to book your stay at the Magnolia Hotel St. Louis.

Fall Foliage at The Garden

Just a 12-minute car ride from the hotel, the Missouri Botanical Garden is THE spot to see vibrant autumn colors. Take a walk through the Garden on a crisp day & see roses and water lilies blooming, as well as bright red berries coming to life on the Garden’s holly trees. You might even witness the outdoor horticulture staff planting 70,000+ bulbs in preparation for the upcoming spring blooms! During the autumn months, the Garden’s indoor staff works tirelessly on extraordinary props for their winter Holiday Show, just around fall’s corner.

The Gateway Arch Museum

Did you know that the Gateway Arch, one of America’s most iconic landmarks, has a museum & visitor’s center, too? This subterranean museum – formerly known as the Museum of Westward Expansion – reopened to the public on July 3, 2018 after a 5-year revitalization project. The museum received an impressive expansion of 46,000 sq. ft, as well as two brand new entrances. A map drawn on the museum’s floor displays routes followed by pioneers moving westward & another part of the museum reveals the history of St. Louis itself. Word on the street is that the Gateway Arch Museum is spectacular. And admission is still free!

Herman’s Farm Orchard

We can all agree that apple picking is quintessentially fall. Luckily, there are a plethora of farms & orchards in St. Louis’ surrounding area that offer this activity every year. Herman’s Farm Orchard is one of our favorites – it has plenty of fun for the whole family! Located in St. Charles, MO, about 45 minutes from the Magnolia Hotel St. Louis, Herman’s U-Pick apple picking kicks off on September 1. This farm also offers hayrides & educational tours. For a small fee, the kiddos will especially love exploring the castle playground & giving the pedal tractors a whirl.
