Planning a Pet-Friendly Omaha Vacation

Your pooch is part of the family. You take him with you to the park, to the patio of your favorite restaurant, and maybe even to the mall. When you start packing for a vacation, it’s tough to leave your baby at home.

Luckily, many places in and around Omaha welcome man’s best friend. Whether you’re headed to Nebraska to visit family, on a pleasure vacation or for business, it’s easy to travel with your four-footed pal in tow. Here are a few of the places around Omaha where your dog can adventure with you.

Stay and Play

While many upscale hotels don’t allow pets, Magnolia Omaha understands just how important your dog is. All the rooms here are pet-friendly, allowing two pets of any size for no additional fee. The hotel is centrally located in the arts district, just minutes from the Old Market and the Joslyn Art Museum, as well as walkable streets and dog parks. Also, there’s no need to leave Spot in your room when you go out for dinner. According to Bring Fido, there are 91 dog-friendly eateries in town!

Where to Walk

If you’re vacationing in Omaha with your dog, you’ll need to find the best nearby places for a walk. While there are plenty of green spaces to take your pup to do her “business,” Omaha is home to two official dog parks for longer playtimes: Hanscom Dog Park and Hefflinger Dog Park. Both have off-leash play areas, plus separate sections for smaller pups under 30 pounds to play safely apart from bigger pets. Hanscom Park is just 3.5 miles from Magnolia Omaha, making it a great daily pit-stop on your way to downtown restaurants or events. It features 2.1 acres of dedicated doggy zone, marked with an adorable “parking/barking” sign posted by the Omaha Department of Parks & Recreation.

Have a Treat

In recent years, there’s been a rise in Omaha eateries offering doggie patios with bowls and leash tie-ups. Located on the bottom floor of a trendy hi-rise building, Black Oak Grill in Midtown Crossing invites pooches to enjoy the gorgeous spring and summer weather on the patio. Benson Brewery’s 1910s movie theatre building has a great outdoor space for dogs, as does Dundee Cork & Bottle on 50th St (which also has a safe bike rack should you decide to pedal over with Bella or Max). If your pet looks longingly at your dessert, but you don’t want to get him sick, head for locally crafted puppy treats at Long Dog, Fat Cat. The all-natural pet food store even custom makes pet-friendly cakes for doggy birthdays!

Nebraska’s capital city is becoming increasingly pet-friendly, with plenty of parks and eateries where pups are welcome. While it’s tougher to find indoor pet stops, Fido can always rest easy (and warm!) in your room at Magnolia Omaha.
